Horrible Pedi experience

I was not 100% in love w/ Elizabeth's pedi. I want a more personal experience and someone who remembers her or at least reads her chart outside the door and pretends to remember her.

She was seen at the hospital when she was born by the dr on call that day so I decided to take her to that lady. Aparently she has two offices. The Newport beach office ( very nice area) which does not see patients on Fridays so I scheduled an appointment this morning at the Costa Mesa office ( not as nice of an area as Newport) When we got to the office it was packed, there were people lined up outside at least 15 or 20 kids with only 4 or 5 moms. When I walked in it was standing room only, filthy and all the kids were sick, like chicken pox, whooping cough sick.  No one was at the desk, phone ringing off the hook. I feel dirty just going in there.

I am a stuck up b!tch. I turned around and left. I called back form the car and said we would not be making our appointment.

I know I am lucky to have the insurance I do, but I don't work my a$$ off to have it to have to go to a free clinic. I had a lapse in healthcare in between college and my current job and was only able to receive medical treatment at free clinics for 3 years, so I appreciate everything they do for low income individuals more than anyone.

What bothered me the most was that I had a 10:45 apt. I rearanged my entire work day so that I could take her. I got there early to fill out the new patient paperwork, but there was no possible way I was going to get seen at that time. There were at least 25 people ahead of me, with 3-6 kids each. The biggest draw for me to have the insurance we have is so I dont have to spend 5 hours at the doctors office.

ok, vent over. That's my snarky, spoiled brat rant for the month. Thanks for listening. I needed to complain to someone, so my family doesn't think I'm ungreatful.

  • LOL. I know what you mean about that. You don't need to wait an hour in that lobby just for E to get sick. I know I have my stuck up moments, I think it's allowed Smile

  • Its great that the Ped is willing to work in an area that needs her but at the same time it sounds like her office isn't well run (note the backlog of patients probably from overbooking).  Sounds like she needs a new office manager.

Good luck finding a new Ped!  Sometimes just going with what you're assigned at the hospital works well and sometimes it doesn't.

  • I wouldn't have stayed either. The last thing you need is to have E hang out around sick kids for an hour!

    This exactly.

Good luck finding a new pediatrician.

  • Don't feel bad. I'd have done same thing. That is absurd. I'm a huge germaphobe so just seeing all those sick kids would have made me freak out.
  • Even free clinics can be nice.  This one just sounded like it was poorly run and managed and WAY over booked!  I used to go to the free clinic when I lived in Vista because my roommates Mom was a gyno there and I felt comfortable seeing her.  I had insurance so I paid but it was still a free clinic.  But the waiting rooms were clean, they had a separate area for children coming in for just a check-up and children who were sick as well as a separate room for pregnant women.  I usually just waited in the pregnant room so I wouldn't have to be around too many crying babies.  :)  Anyway, I loved that clinic!  The one you went to sounds HORRIBLE!  I would have turned and walked out, too!
