Re: First internal?

  • Mine was at 35 weeks but it seems like 36 week is more normal.
  • I will be 34 1/2 weeks at my appointment Monday...so most likely they won't do one yet...?

  • I am pretty sure it is @ 36 weeks. I hope so!
  • Every provider/pregnancy is different. My MW doesn't do them until you're in labor unless you're having complications. Her back-up starts doing them at 34-36wks, depending on the mom and how well she's carried. Because of my history of going into labor early, I've had 4 internal u/s's and 2 internal exams due to early labor signs.

I would think not.  I only had mine at 35 weeks because I lost my MP and has some contractions the weekend before.

    I was 0.5 centimeters and 40% effaced.

  • They normally do the first one at 36 weeks, but I had one at 33 weeks because I have had a lot of contractions.

  • my OB offered at 36 weeks, and i allowed it since he was doing my GBS, however that will be the last one for me since i am having a c-section.  i don't need him jamming his arm up my vag to tell me whether or not i have progress when it doesn't mean a darn thing unless you think you are in labor

Oh, you made some progress!  Do they think it's at all possible you could go into labor before your scheduled c-section?

There is always a possibility but I highly doubt it.  First babies almost never come early.  My Peri isn't even doing consistent internals anymore since I am scheduled to have her in 6 days.

Wow.  6 days.  Can you believe it?  I can't wait to read your birth story!

  • 36 weeks for me
  • my Dr wouldn't do one until 37weeks she didn't think it was necessary because I wasn't technically full term yet.   Part of me I wish she would have done earlier so I could have known if and for how long I have been  at the stage i am at now, but also I'm glad she didn't  sooner because then I would have been a worried that the baby  would come sooner.  Anyway did she give you any news?
  • I will have mine on Thursday.  I will be 36w 5days.
  • My OB does not do them because he does not believe they are medically necessary and they only tell you if you are dilated and effaced...not when LO is coming

  • mine was @ 39

This. The internal exams don't tell really tell you anything about when your labor will begin. I have no desire to be checked internally and intend to refuse internal exams at regular OB appointments unless there is something wrong.
