Hi. We are looking to get a new point and shoot camera as our last one just died. We've been looking at the Powershots and are trying to decide between the 780 and the SD1400. Does anyone have any experience with these? Likes or dislikes? The one thing I really didn't like about my old Sony was that there was a long delay between pushing the button and the picture taking, so I want to make sure this isn't an issue with these (annoying when trying to get pics of a 2.5 year old!)
Any other recommendations?
Thank you!
Re: NTR: Anyone have a Canon Powershot?
I have the 780 and I like it a lot. I love that it's small, compact, and fits in DD's bag. The video is ok, but all functions are really easy to use. DH likes using it so much more then our Digital SLR. It's no comparison to the SLR in shutter speed, but much better then any other point and shoot I've had.
If you're looking for something that doesn't have a lag, I think you want to ask a camera pro for a camera with the fastest shutter speed.
Disclaimer: I don't really know what I am doing with a camera, i just like taking pix of DD.
We've been a powershot family for the past 10+ years and LOVE them.
My SIL has a sony and I couldn't believe how awful the lag time was. I was missing so many shots when photographing her daughter's birthday because I was used to a camera that took a shot and moved on quickly.
I don't think the powershot will disappoint.
However.... be warned that our old powershot (SD 850 IS) just broke in the middle of my 4 yr old's birthday party last weekend. We didn't get a single picture of his party (just pics of the decorations before it started). Not sure if they've fixed the issue but this last one had trouble with the lens getting stuck out and then the camera doesn't function. We read a lot about it online and discovered that sometimes banging the camera will make the lens retract again but this last time we just couldn't get it fixed.
They may have fixed this issue - ours was 3 years old. And we've never had this problem with any of the previous power shots and we've owned 4 of them over the years.
We're moving to the SLR for a new camera but I know DH will want another point and shoot to carry easily.
I have no doubt that we'll get another powershot despite our recent experience.
We still love the camera and will gamble that it was just a bad model year because we've enjoyed them that much.
And.... DH will tell you that he kinda likes an excuse to get a new one after 3 years simply because they advance so much in that time!
GL with your decisions!
