backpacks for preschool

I need to get DS a backpack for preschool. I need something that can hold all of his wonderful art work, etc. I am looking at Lands End and Stephen Joseph (quilted or go-go bag). Any thoughts?

Re: backpacks for preschool

  • I got Jackson an LL Bean backpack.  I think the Skip Hop ones are cute, too, but he didn't love any of them so I just went w/ the plain LL Bean.

One advantage of Joey's disabilities: He has zero preference for anything in regards to clothing, accessories etc. so I get to pick everything!

Sometimes I think the 4 year old opinions are going to cause me to tear my hair out.  Like the fact that he really prefers to wear no underwear at all.  :)  He'll even take them off and put his shorts back on w/out them, gah!

James has the smallest sized one from Pottery Barn Kids. It is fine for carrying things to and from preschool. It is not big enough to fit a folder or anything, but he doesn't need anything that big yet. As it is the backpack is almost as big as he is. Oh and I just remembered, there is a pic of it in my siggy.
  • Mine both have the Four Peas toddler backpack and I love them. The fit them perfectly and are super well made. They are small, though. We use them for their spare clothes and shoes. If I fold up the art, it could certainly fit. I try to keep it nice because my son rarely makes anything at school and I like to keep what he does make=)

  • Thanks ladies for all of the great suggestions!
  • Last year for K I had a Classmate TinyTake backpack for DD from Land's End. It wound up being too small for Kindergarten (just barely fit a 9x12 standard folder height-wise). But I think it would be perfect for preschool!

  • dd had the pbk preschooler backpack for MMO, but it does not hold a folder, so she now uses it for her My Little Ponies.  but it's held up for 3 years.  we bought ds the pbk small backpack. it is just tall enough to fit a folder.  we're thinking of getting dd the large one when she goes to kindergarten . he is using a hello kitty backpack from target.  last year for prek3 they told use she needed a backpack to fit a folder on the first day of school... so we had to run out and grab something. she picked it. and it's held up fine.  she'll use it again this year and then we'll buy new for kindergarten.

  • I got DS one of the Stephen Joseph Go-Go backpacks from www.thecrazydazy.com.  It looks great, but haven't put anything in it or tried it out other than just DS running around the house with it on for about 5 minutes.  They say (and it looks like it) will hold a standard folder.

now I'm not big on character clothes or shoes... but a backpack, eh. I prefer the cute, not-character styles... dd's was a last minute purchase last year. This year,  I let dc pick out their lunchboxes this year.  Dd has My Little Pony and Ds has buzz lightyear.  may be a good compromise if you absolutely hate the idea of a big dora backpack???

  • Both of my kids have  a Lands End bag and we love it.  It is big for my 2 year old but my 4 year old can easily carry it on her back.  I can easily fit in extra clothes, snow pants, etc and they have held up great.  We have had them for around a year now and they still look like new.

  • Our preschool requires big backpacks so we just got Jansport ones.  They come with a warranty and are really durable.
