Two Under 2

I'm stuck... help with nap timing, please!

I used to have our nap schedules all worked out and my days were going smoothly!

Kids would get up at 6:30 AM. Allie would nap from 8:30 - 9:30. After her morning nap I could run out for a couple of hours to run errands, go to the farmer's market, take JD to story time at the library, etc.

After errands we'd go home around 11:00 for lunch and then both kids would take a nap giving me some much loved "me" time. They'd sleep from 11:30 to about 1:30 then Allie would take her third nap from 3:30 to about 4:30.... Allie to bed for the night at 7:00 and JD in bed aroudn 8:00.

Now Allie is transitioning to two naps and I'm stuck in the house! Here is my day:

6:30 - both kids wake up

9:00 - 10:30 - Allie's first nap

11:00 - JD eats lunch while I feed Allie

11:30 - 1:30 - JD naps

1:00 - 3:00 - Allie naps

6:30 - Allie down for the night

8:00 - JD down for the night

So now I have one of the kids sleeping from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and I can't go anywhere! When Allie wakes at 3:00 it's usually too late to really do anything because I have to start thinking about the whole dinner/bath/bed routine that starts at 5:00 PM (Well, I usually start cooking/preparing around 4:30 but we eat between 5:00 and 5:30) not to mention the activities that JD likes (library, farmer's market, etc) are usually morning activities!

So how do you do it? I've tried getting Allie to stay awake longer in the morning and getting JD to go down a little earlier but it's not working. I don't mind Allie sleeping in the car but she's out of her infant carrier so getting in and out of the car wakes her and she ends up really cranky! HELP!

  • Push JD's nap back to 1pm. Then you'll have from 1030-1 to do stuff. I pack a lunch (pretty much everyday) and feed them on the go (in the shopping cart or stroller). Or just be home by 1230 to do luch. Both kids can nap in the afternoon and you can still stay home and do dinner/bath/bedtime without rushing. Hope this helps.

This.Plus you'd have a couple hrs where they are both napping at the same time :) It seems if this works, you would also have from 3p-4:30/5 to do shorter errands/neighborhood walks etc. In an 1.5-2hrs I have been able to go grocery shopping AND stop at the library for awhile to pick up a new slew of books for DD :)
