So I'm not even pregnant or TTC right now but DH and I got to talking about baby names the other night. When I was pregnant with DS one of the names that we both liked for a boy was Bennett. Now DH says we can't use it for a hypothetical 3rd child because it's the last name of a family that we've become good friends with since DS was born. I said it would be fine because we would most likely be calling him Ben anyway.
Also, our last name begins with an S and he's now saying all B names are out because he wouldn't want the kids initials to be "BS". I said that the kids initials would be B_S because there would be a middle name.
Opinions on either?
Re: baby name/initials
Does it matter..NO, would I use it ...no, I am big into initials and what they say or spell....but thats just me, many people would go their whole life and never realize the B.S. initials. I think the reason DH said that is that when most people initial something, they don't put their middle initial.....
I think I try to be careful because I had a friend who once she got married her initials were A.S.S. She was born A.S.T. but took her husbands name and hence the name... and you never know what a girls initials may change to but a boy is stuck!!.
if you like it use it, is it the end of the world absolutely not!!! its just NMS to have any initials that could be made fun of...kids will find other ways...haha
I like the name Bennett FWIW
I think it's totally fine!
I don't even think B.S. initials are that bad for a guy, he can make jokes out of it
I looooove the name Bennett (I immediately started pairing it with my last name...doesn't work too well, but it's a great name!).
But, no, I wouldn't use if it means his initials would be "BS". I dated a guy whose initials were BM and he hated it--when he was little other kids always teased him that his initials spelled poop. Kids are mean!!
I wouldn't simply because of the initial issue. It wouldn't matter to me that you had friends with that name.
Growing up my initials were "EAZ", but who ever uses the middle name in school?? Rarely if ever. It was always abbreviated as "EZ" and it sucked. I am VERY careful right now to pick a baby name and think about any possible implications from just using initials - be it all 3 names or just first and last.
I also spell out all initials to make sure...so I probably wouldn't use it but kids can really turn anything into something and make fun of it (that is the really sad part). My maiden name starts with "M", has a double "s" in it and they turned it into "Mary Messy" because I did have a messy desk in kindergarten...a stretch but they did it. My husband was "Michael, Michael motorcycle, turn the key and watch him..." yeah, see? Anything!
Your argument though, could be BS as in "Bachelor of Science" Another stretch but it might save the day
or the name!
