2 and twins. One embie was higher quality; the other was so so, but decent. We had one make it to freeze.
ETA: We transfered 2 because neither was the best quality you could have, but they were both good. The RE recommended 2 with a goal of getting 1 to stick. She gave us a 20-30% chance of twins and a 50% chance of getting pregnant.
The first time we put pack 1 blast and it was a BFN. The second cycle got canceled and the third we decided to do 2 on day 3 and I had a chemical. The one that work we put 2 on day 3 and one stuck. We felt that the embies were better off in me earlier so we stayed with day 3 transfers and we put 2 because we felt that we were happy and ok with twins but not more. We are doing a FET in September and will put 2 for that as well. My clinic really likes trying for single transfers but since it didn't work for us with the first cycle and it took a lot for us they let us do 2 each time.
With both my IVF cycles we transferred two embies and I was pregnant with a singleton.
Your RE should have a formula based on your age, dx, and the quality of your embies so that he can recommend the appropriate number of embies to transfer. Most REs will not transfer more than two embies for your first IVF cycle.

Unexplained Infertility
After two Clomid cycles, three injectable IUI cycles, two IVFs, two miscarriages, and one lap surgery, IVF #2 has brought us our little boy!
TTC #2 After months of being postponed or cancelled, FET #1.3 (Natural FET) brought us twin girls!
With my FET i did 2 and had one beautiful little girl.
This fresh IVF i only transferred 1 at the recommendation of my doc (my clinic is a huge proponent of single transfers), and due to the risks of twins and PTL (my concerns). We are pregnant with one. It was a decent embryo, but not the best.
Thankfully we only did one (i wavered with 2 this time) since i had a PTL episode very early on at 25 weeks and I am on bedrest. I think i would have had a worse outcome had i been pregnant with twins.
We did a 5dt with one 4AA embie and I am pg with a singleton. DH and I originally considered putting back two but our RE very strongly suggested just the one based on the great quality and my age.

IVF #1 - we put back two. Why, because that was all that we had that looked good at the time of our 3DT. I got pg with a singleton and lost that baby at 6.5 weeks.
IVF #2 - we put back three. Why, because it was our last insurance covered cycle and I was at the end of my rope after having TTC for 22 months. I could not face another m/c and I could not face another fresh cycle. I thought I'd rather end up with multiples than risk not being pregnant. And I figured if we got pg with two and lost one I would still be pg at the end of the day. (I know that sounds bad, but I hope you get what I'm trying to say). Anyway, I am now pg with twins.
So far we've done:
Clomid Challenge/HSG/SA
1 Unmedicated IUI
2 Clomid IUIs
2 Femara IUIs
1 injectable IUI
-2nd Femara IUI resulted in a CP (Beta was 16)
-Another CP in May. (Beta 19 Prog 13)
-Ectopic Pg - (Beta 27, 67, 430, 850) - methotrexate shot & biopsy
-Forced 3 month Break
1/4/10 - Uterine septum removed by Hysteroscopy
1/18/10 - Told I have inflammation in uterus. 6 weeks of antibiotics.
2/27/10 - Another confirmed ectopic. 2 shots of methotrexate after an ER visit.
Currently doing acupuncture and trying to lose weight.
TTC since 3/07 -
We put two back (that's all we had anyway). Even if we had more we would have only done 2 since it was our first cycle. I am pg with singleton. I had 3DT with one 8 cell and one 10 cell. Good luck!
IVF #1 = BFP!! So blessed to have our baby boy!
IVF #2 = Convert to frozen - 1 frostie!
IVF #3 = Convert to frozen - 1 frostie!
FET #1 = 8/14, Two transferred, One stuck! Praying for another healthy miracle! Due: 5/2/13

we put back 3 on our 2nd IVF (2 on our first).
We did 3 b/c we suspected a quality issue although at day 3 all looked good. I am also older and this was it for us.
We ended up with a singleton.
IVF#1 - Put back 2 4BB day 5 blasts, got pregnant, miscarried before my first ultrasound.
IVF#2 - Put back 2 4AA day 5 blasts, got pregnant with triplets (identical twins and a fraternal triplet). Lost ID twins at 9 weeks.
With both my IVF cycles we transferred two embies and I was pregnant with a singleton.

This. We just went with the RE's recommendation based on our age, dx, etc...We definitely were not planning on transferring more than 2.
We have one frozen blast waiting

We transferred two "perfect" blasts at 5 days. Both implanted, saw 2 heartbeats at 6w+ and sadly lost 1 at 9w.
I'm now 10w4d and praying our LO hangs in for the next 29 weeks.
