New & need Clomid advice

I'm new to the boards (signed up today).  I just stumbled across the thebump in my search for answers.  I'm hoping some of you ladies who have had similar experiences can help.

I am almost 30 yrs old and have been trying for a year and a half.  My progesterone level is low and my husband has a low sperm count.  My cycles have been very regular but my dr. just prescribed Clomid to be take on CD 5-9.  I finished my period CD 5 (I'm always 5 days, no more no less) but then I started spotting on CD 8 and bleeding now from CD 9-12.  Its like I'm getting my period all over again.  I called my dr. and was only able to speak with the nurse who said that that was not normal but to just give it a few more days and keep testing and call if I ovulate.

Has anyone else had this happen?  I'm a little concerned because I'm very regular and am afraid my body is not reacting well to the Clomid.  I'm afraid I won't even ovulate this month!

Any advice you can give is truly appreciated!

Re: New & need Clomid advice

  • Were you being monitored on the Clomid? Going in for ultrasounds and having bloodwork done? These are very important things to know before taking Clomid. Are you seeing an RE or an OB. If you are going to continue with Clomid i would recommend seeing an RE to be monitored properly. I do not have experience with bleeding after taking Clomid but IMO it doesn't sound good. I would call the dr again and ask to have an internal ultrasound. GL

All this also did you get an ultra sound before taking the Clomid? It is really important to see an RE or at least be monitored with ultra sounds and blookwork.

  • Thanks for the advice.

No I am not being monitored at all.  I haven't even seen my OB since April!  She does everything over the phone.  I went and got a progesterone test a few months ago and then my husband got a semen analysis and she called me gave me the results and said she was mailing me a prescription for clomid with instructions on when to take it and that is it!  I'm getting a little frustrated.

Please see an RE for monitoring also since your husband has a low sperm count there may need to be more intervention than what an OB can do. Also what is scaring me is that an ultra sound needs to be done before you take the clomid. This ultra sound will check to see if you have any cyst on your ovaries and if you do you should not be taking the clomid. Good luck hun and I hope the bleeding is not bad news.

  • I didnt have any experiences like that but I am on my first month of clomid and i did o this month opk said anyways but i am not being moniterd either, my ob which i love said i had no problems besides ammenorea(spelling) which led to no ovulation, my ob just gave me three month cycle and said we will go further if i am not preggo in three months.  Oh i am on provera to have cycles.
  • Update:

So I have taken your advice and have found an RE and have my first appt scheduled for Mon.  In the mean time I am bleeding again on the Clomid!!  I did get a pos ovulation on CD 14 but I just got the results today from my prog test and it indicated that I did not ovulate.  This is so weird because my cycle has been very normal on its own and my previous prog tests have indicated that I ovulated.  And now I take Clomid one month and my cyle is all over the place and I didn't ovulate!  My ob/gyn called with the test results today and I asked her what I should do since I seemed to do better on my own than with the Clomid and she upped by dose to 100mg.  I don't think I'm going to take it.  I think I'm going to wait for a second opinion and speak with someone who willl see me in person.  I just feel like I need some other tests done to figure out what is going on versus just upping my Clomid.
