Re: Need a convertible carseat for grandma

  • We borrowed our friends' Cosco seat when we traveled as it was very light to carry through the airport and we didn't want to risk the airlines banging up our one carseat.  Not as plush or quite as easy to install and buckle as our Marathon, but SC was always fine in it.  We have a Graco Nautilus that I LOVE in Andy's car, thinking of moving it to the van.  It converts to a booster with back and a backless booster.  Also has 5pt harness for when its a convertible carseat.

  • We have the Evenflo Triumph in DH's car.  I think we paid around $100 for it.  It is a nice seat.  I would be keeping an eye out on the Britax seats b/c they are going for really cheap right now since the new ones are about to come out.

  • I've heard nothing but good things about the Cosco Scenera and it's very affordable.  I've seem them go as low as $42 at Sears/Kmart.com  and I think babycheapskate had it listed for around this price last week somewhere else, but not sure if that price is still good or where it was.  Our spare carseat is a Graco Comfortsport.  It is fine for forward facing but we could never get a good install RF so keep that in mind.  Same for my mom's Alpha Omega.  It's fine FF, but sucks RF.  Gavin is comfy in all of these.

  • We tried the Cosco Scenera for my mom and MIL's car since he stays with them and we didn't like it. I felt it wiggled too much. We ended up getting them the Graco My Ride 65. They're always on sale online at walmart for 115. I know that's a bit over but we love the seats.
