What to do about LO falling and hitting the back of his head?

Cason is starting to walk and tonight he fell in the kitchen. He fell down to his butt, but the momentum carried him and he fell down and cracked the back of his head on the floor. I'm kind of freaking out now, because we have concrete slab under there. He cried but recovered quickly and seemed fine the rest of the night. I nursed him to sleep and put him in bed.

My mother freaked me out about head trauma, etc., and told me I should go in periodically and try to wake him to make sure he is ok. Is this what I am supposed to do? She really freaked me out...

  • I would go with your gut/mom's instinct.

  • Go with your gut, but just a reminder, that this is why they have soft spots on their heads.   Babies fall a lot.  There is room for the brain to swell a little because of their soft spots.   That said, I was not there to see the fall, so by no means listen to me.
  • Yay this is the crappy part of when they start to really walk then run. Bailey has smacked his little head so many times on our woodfloors that now he pretty much jumps right back up. He's also had 7 busted lips over the last few months b/c of falling while walking. Like the pps go with your gut.
