Hi -
My daughter is due September 8th, and we will be looking for a full time nanny. Where do I even begin to look and how soon should I start looking? I see nanny agiencies want a $5,000 finders fee, which seems steep to me, so I am hoping someone can give me a suggestion. I live in Logan Square.
Re: Chicago Nanny
I definitely suggest joining the NPN board. There are TONS of great nannies on there, and they are usually recommended by their former employers. (npnparents.org)
It has a small fee for one year of membership, however I use this board EVERY single day for things from a question about my car (where to get it serviced), gym memberships, how to help in coping with my in-laws, etc... It's a wonderful resource for setting up playgroups, etc... also. I also highly recommend a background check.
I'm a nanny, so coming from my perspective, I recommend NOT joining sittercity.com. A lot of parents think it's a great way to find sitters and nannies, but what they don't realize is that we go through no screening process to be on that website- we just sign up. It's up to YOU to get the background check cleared, etc...
I also cannot stress enough to check as many references as you can, and to also agree to a trial period with the nanny. It's very important that you feel safe leaving your child at home with the nanny, and a trial period can help you see their personality on a day-to-day basis.
I hope that helps- but I really truly highly recommend npnparents.org. Best website, best $49 I've ever spent!
Good luck!!
your baby is BEAUTIFUL!!! Ahh! Love the pictures in your siggy.
