North Dakota Babies

Baby shower yesterday (a bit long)

My baby shower was yesterday.  It was a lot of fun and I got to see people I hadn't seen in a while since we had it where we used to live (not where we live now) so more people could attend.  It's where I was living until the end of May so I haven't been gone that long and it was mostly my former coworkers.  One of my best friends drove down from Michigan to throw the shower.  (crazy lady)

It was easily a crazy weekend.  I went over (2 hr drive) Sat to spend the night there with my mom who drove up Sat and back home after the shower.  She was annoyed that my MIL couldn't make it (who decided she would rather use her time to visit the baby rather than the shower which I fully understand).  She's also annoyed that I've asked her not to come up to our house until we're home from the hospital.  Apparently I'm a selfish daughter that knows nothing.  And that there will be so much down time in the hospital that I'll be completely bored and will be begging her to come up to spend time with the baby.  How dare I deny her meeting her grandson 48 hours after he's born?  Tongue Tied

DH came to the shower on Sunday after he had worked Sat morning and then went back at midnight Sat night.  He had 3 hours sleep between the two shifts and then had 2 hours of sleep after his late night shift before driving over.  So I was a bit worried that he was tired but appreciated him coming.  On the way home from the shower last night, DH apparently drove over a nail (or something similar) on the interstate.  Fortunately I was only 5 min behind him because I had tried to get gas but there was a huge line at the service station, so I stopped and helped him with the tire.  Ok seriously I gave instructions because my dad had taught me how to change a tire and his dad never had taught him so he was making some mistakes that just makes your life harder.  We drove the rest of the way home on a road that runs parallel to the interstate so it took longer but was more in line with the 50 mph required by the spare tire.  I'm just glad no one got hurt but the tire was ruined even though DH drove it just enough to pull over.

Good news is that we got a lot of thoughtful gifts.  Bad news is that it seems like few paid attention to the fact I created a baby registry (two actually).  One registry was easily accessible (Target) and the other was harder b/c there's no BRU in that town.  What surprised me was that people went to Kohl's and bought stuff which I didn't understand fully especially today while gathering the info for writing out the thank you cards and making sure that things were taken off the registry I saw that hardly anything from either registry had been purchased.  There's a duplicate here and there, which sometimes happens because the registry doesn't get updated in time for the next person to print it out (especially if they are at the store at the same time) but for most of that stuff I have receipts.  I didn't put any blankets on the registry yet I still got 4 of them.  Only problem is I already had 10 (not kidding).  But overall things went pretty well.  I just wish I had gotten more of the basics that I really needed.  (like sheets for the pack n play)  Instead there was a bit of improvising.  I fully appreciate it if someone goes out of their way to hand make a blanket so I'm definitely not referring to something like that.

So I need to finish sorting what needs to go back to what store so we can get the rest of what we do need.  It doesn't help that I'm a bit tired still and didn't sleep as well as I had hoped because of thinking of my to do list after a crazy day yesterday.  Apparently there are some funny pictures though including one where a former coworker of mine has this look of either hatred or anger on her face as she's watching me open presents.  Honestly lady, if you didn't want to be there, you didn't have to be and you definitely didn't owe me a gift.  She's not much of a people person if you hadn't guessed. LOL

Hope everyone's having a good week.  Thanks for listening. You deserve a Paradise after reading this!
