Ok, let's talk about how unrealistic maternity models look

I'm serious, there's is no frickin way this girl wasn't photoshopped:

My butt/hips look NOTHING like that! I'm just saying, there's something to be said for actually having hips that can hold a child up...

Re: Ok, let's talk about how unrealistic maternity models look

  • Her belly actually looks POINTED on the right side!
  • Loading the player...
  • I also love how they're quite often wearing heels, when dr's and books tell you to wear flats more often when you start expanding, since the balance is thrown off.  Plus your feet hurt and who wants to wear heels with aching feet?
  • AND her belly looks way weird- it starts too far in.  It looks like someone in photo shop took the middle of her stomach and 'dragged' it outward.

And uh, where's her linea nigra and stretch marks? HMMM?

  • I absolutely hate this. They all look so perfect and stunning and they're just all belly, and it just makes me feel like a fat cow. It's one thing to subject non pregnant women to crazy beauty standards, but doing that to pregnant chicks is just cruel. Lol.

  • I think her bump was photoshopped in. I just another thing about photoshopping the other day. Ann Taylor was at it again this time!

And whose belly button 'pops' when they are that little?  Her torso is awfully long and wth is wrong with her left (our left) side?

  • I just can't imagine how anyone with a baby belly can keep these kinds of underwear up.

  • Yeah, that is a really bad photoshop job. Even the mannequins at the store are unrealistic to me. My BFF was like, "So, this is what a tiny person looks like pregnant."

  • That looks BADLY Photoshopped. It is creepy!

I think many times they just have non-PG models wearing fake bellies that they can edit to look (vaguely) real.

  • That belly definitely looks fake and creepy!

I know... I have a few friends back home who are as tiny as Twiggy, and while their bodies stayed pretty small with a beach ball for a belly, they did all gain weight in their faces and necks. I guess it affects us all differently, but as far as I'm concerned only very few women stay anything close to that size!

  • Uhg, I hate those kinds of pictures, I doubt half the women that are fully clothed are pregnant at all.  Even DH asked me one day while I was browsing in Motherhood, "Do you think those models are actually pregnant?"

I will play devils advocate on the heels though.  I still wear heels to work every day and to weddings and such with no problems.  I think if you're used to it and you're not trying to break in a new pair of heels you'll be ok until the belly's really big or your feet are really swollen.

My ass has gotten so big!  I used to sit on DHs lap and he would complain that my butt bones would hurt him.,.now he's like "you are all comfortable"..thanks DH.

I would kill to wear heels right now! My feet are so swollen that even my ballet flats won't fit. It's a good thing it's summer and that I'm a SAHM!

  • This is why I hate photoshop. The model is definately NOT pg and you can see how airbrushed everything is.
