Unexplained Dx and Follistim?

Just curious how many follies you had Follistim and curious what your regimin (dose, cd's you take it, etc.) was/is? My Dr. wants to do 75 units per night starting on cd 3- cd 11. Seems like a long time! I am so use  to oral meds.

Re: Unexplained Dx and Follistim?

  • This is my first cycle with Follistim.  I took 100 iu for 6 days.  I had either 2 or 3 follies release eggs.

I was kind of disappointed in my response because I responded with 3 or 4 each Clomid cycle, but my nurse reminded me that it only takes one and that this was our "trial" cycle.

I just realized you may have been asking only those ladies with an unexplained DX.  I have PCOS.

It's okay. I am always interested to hear everyone's feedback as well. I am just specifically interested in unexplained dx. GOOD LUCK!!!

  • I was going to be moved to injects while we were still diagnosed unexplained even though now I know I have DOR.  I'm on Gonal-F, but my nurse told me it is the same drug as Follistim just a different manufacturer so I can tell you what I have been doing.

Once I got the "all-clear" on CD3, I started giving myself injections that night.  My RE started me at 150iu.  I have been doing that every night.  I go in tomorrow morning (CD7) for monitoring again.  Then I'll get a call to let me know if I need to alter my dose at all.  I'll go back in again probably CD9, and my RE said as long as I'm responding appropriately, he should be able to tell me when to trigger based on that day.  Otherwise I can come in again on CD 10 or 11 or however more times I need before he can tell me to trigger.

I'll trigger at home in the evening the night he tells me to, then go in to the office for b2b IUI's the next 2 mornings.  I guess I could be doing shots anywhere from 5-8 nights or longer depending on how I'm responding.

It took 44 cycles, just over 3 years, 6 failed IUI's in MI, and 1 round of IVF at CCRM to get our BFP!

  • hey Lina! I'm unexplained and I've done 4 cycles of follistim. I've always started the injections on day 3, but the dose has varied depending on how I was progressing during the cycle.

How many days of injections has varied.. the first month I O'd on day 12, then 14, then 15, then 16. So, depending on how you're progressing don't be surprised if you end up continuing injections after cd11. You'll probably continue injections up until the day before your IUI.

    Good luck Lina!!

  • Oh! And as for the # of follies, I had one cycle with only 1 mature follie, the other cycles I had at least 2.. with the possibility of 4 tops.

  • I'm on 50 units of Follistim (since CD3) and went in on CD6 for b/w and will go in tomorrow on CD8 for u/s and b/w. I expect to be on it at least for another week or so, since I'm usually a slow responder, with u/s and b/w almost every day. Not sure how many follies yet, but I'm hoping there's something in there!  I'll be doing b2b IUI's the 2 days after a trigger shot.
