I know. SO and I have decided that there is no need for some huge wedding, cause the only reason people do it in our families anyhow is to top the last one. We will be having a private ceremony with immediate family and my mother will probably be the one who marries us. When and if we ever decide to get a piece of paper to prove how much we love each other.
really? I love them. Not for the oh-love-and-romance-part (though that part is fine), but for the dancing, dressing up and people watching. And the potential for good drama, not-so-good drama...booze + family is always a treat!!
I feel the same way about weddings that by design cost $1000 to attend. If the people actually think of what their guest will have to spend, then I don't mind. I wanted to have my wedding in Charleston, but the cheapest hotels were $150+ a night and required a 3 night stay. It made a lot more sense to have it in Atlanta, where nice hotels have weekend rates of $100 or less and no minimum stay. People could also take the train or an inexpensive cab to the wedding, which is my other peeve. Serving lots of alcohol and no public transportation (this is quite popular here, since people like to have weddings in the mountains or the beach, where cab service is virtually none).
Re: I haftah say it...I loathe weddings
Dude, we went to Vegas. I used to sell wedding gowns. That pretty well killed it for me.
