What's the difference? Is it the sugar and frosting that makes it a cupcake? I just made banana peanut butter cupcakes but they taste like a muffin. I admit I reduced the amount of sugar, which is why I am asking this question.
I googled it and it looks like the main difference is that cupcakes have frosting and muffins don't. And also the ratio of flour, fat and sugar defines what is a cake.
Yeah, I think frosting = cupcake. But this did remind me of something. At dinner the other night, we had cornbread muffins. Gavin kept saying "cupcake" and we warned him that they weren't really cake but he didn't believe us. Took a HUGE bite and omg, his face was priceless. The waitress was cracking up!
