Blocked tear duct

My LO seems to have a blocked tear duct. I read that squirting a few drops of breast milk helps, but squirt it into the whole eye or just the corner? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I just want to make sure I don't mess up his eye. ;) thanks ladies.

Re: Blocked tear duct

  • For a blocked tear duct you can just squirt it onto the corner (tear duct) of the eye, but it won't hurt his eye at all if you squirt it onto his eye. In fact you would squirt it directly onto the eye for such things as pink eye to help clear it up. Breastmilk is a natural antibiotic.

  • I would saturate a cotton ball and then wipe his eye from inside to outside with it. Hope he gets better soon!
  • Ok so my son has had a blocked tear duct for over a month now (his eye gets super goopy, especially after he's been asleep) and you're saying that I can clear it up with breastmilk?  The pediatrician never mentioned this, she just said he'll grow out of it.  I'm going to try this!!!  Thanks!

  • My son was diagnosed with a blocked tear duct on Friday and prescribed ointment from the pediatrician.  I would take him in to the dr as my pediatrician said this type of thing can progress to an ear infection if not caught in time especially for newborns.

  • Our pedi said to massage the eye and the space in the inner corner of the eye that is sort of on the nose when LO is sleeping. I did the other day and a bunch of goop came out. I think it helped some.
