If your neighborhood has a pool and an HOA (NBR)

Our neighborhood is trying to decide the best way to keep non-residents from using the pool, apparently it's become quite an issue this summer.  Additionally, our guest policy is really restrictive, so I'm wondering what other HOAs do.  Here are my questions:

1. How do you get access to your pool?  Key, punch in a code, keycard, etc.

2. What is your HOAs guest policy?

Thanks ladies!

  • We have to punch in a 5 digit code.  We have a security guard that is there during the peak hours.

If you are a guest, the homeowner has to be there with you.  We don't have many issues, so I don't think they actually check to make sure you are a homeowner in the neighborhood.

  • We have a punch code to get in but additionally we have security at the enterance at busy times to check the name and address of everyone (and make sure they have paid their HOA dues).

I believe we can have 2 guests at a time regularly but it isn't really strictly enforced. We can also contact the management company if we want to have a party or something with a lot of guests there.

  • We have a keycard that is activated each year when you pay your homeowners fees.  That gives access to the pool and fitness facilities... there is another card that gives access to the restrooms within those facilities.
  • We have a card that you have to go get a new one each year. It has our picture on it and it scans to get into the pool and exercise facilities. Even the baby has to have one, but his doesn't scan. There's also a person who sits outside the entrance to the pool and asks you your home address and they type that into a computer and then they check your cards to make sure it's actually you on them.

We can have 6 guests maximum at a time but you have to pay $5/person for a guest pass and the pass is good for one day.

  • We have one keycard per household (no photo identification on it or anything). I believe we can have 4 guests with us. As far as I know that's it. We have several neighborhood pools & I think only the largest pool (which I haven't been to) ever has anyone on duty there that could question you. I guess keycards are deactivated when you don't pay your dues, b/c they've been sending out notices not to let people into the pools if their card doesn't work.

  • Keycard entry and we're supposed to only have 1 guest per resident but it's not enforced, especially since we don't have a lifeguard. We are allowed to have additional guests (if we want to rent the pool space for a party) but have to schedule in advance and cannot ask other residents to leave.

  • We use a punch code but it breaks quite frequently and we were looking into changing the system to a swipe card in order to activate and deactivate based on HOA delinquencies.  Anyone had any issues with their card systems that they can share?
