Trouble TTC

How long were you TTC when you first saw an RE?

Dh and I have been trying for 8 months now, but only 4 cycles with O. I was dx with PCOS in 2008 and have always had irregular cycles. (I have been charting and using OPKs, using a CBEFM this cycle)

I want to see an RE ASAP because I feel like I am almost wasting my time at this point, but my OB wants to wait until we have been trying for a year. Is this normal to have a patient wait a year when they already have a diagnosed condition?

  • I would say that it's time for you to see an RE. You have a Dx and the RE will be able to help you far more than an obgyn. Good luck!

  • I think you'll get a bunch of different answers...  Everyone's story is unique.  But to answer your question - for us, it was 18 months.  Started trying in Sept. 2008, first appointment with RE in Feb. 2010.

And, if you already have a diagnosed condition, I'm guessing you won't have to wait the full year.

    Good Luck!

  • We started seeing our RE at the recommendation of my OB/GYN after our second miscarriage in one year. That means about 1 year of trying. Turns out I have PCOS, had a septum, and have low progesterone. It's definitely worth it if you know that you are dealing with PCOS, after all, PCOS is hormone-related, and that's what REs specialize in. Good luck and Baby Dust!! :)
  • 11 months....I had weird cycles too.

I would make an appointment if I were you especially since you already know you have PCOS.

  • 9 months, but I was charting and using OPKs and my cycles were getting longer and longer. If you have a diagnosis of PCOS, I would go ahead and schedule the appointment Do you need a referral from your OB?

  • We waited 2 1/2 years - just never felt a driving urge to get tested until then.  I would say you are not wrong to want to go to an RE now since you have a diagnosis.  Just be aware that your ins may not pay for testing if it's been less than a year and you are under 35.

  • we were around 11 months too.. I would have gone sooner but didn't. I don't ovulate like I should, and after a few months of testing- and having had a Lap done, I almost wish I would have just gone when I felt the need.

    also, love the TAPS sign!

  • Twelve months almost to the day. I knew I wasn't ovulating and would have liked to go earlier, but insurance coverage didn't kick in until we had been trying for 12 months.

  • What is y'alls age? They say that less than 35 yo to TTC at least a year & over 35 TTC for 6 mos then see an RE.

For us we TTC for 2 1/2 years & had 2 m/c along the way. Saw the RE for the first time this past November when I was 37 yo.

  • We tried for 15 months before seeing an RE, but had no known diagnosis (bc my OB sucks).  I would definitely say you're entitled to see an RE with your diagnosis.

  • Check to see if insurance allows you to go to an RE now.  My insurance didn't require a timeframe and we had only been trying for 10 months (but it was 13 cycles.)  With PCOS you should definetly be at the RE.  Good luck!

  • Thanks everyone! I do need a referal to an RE, so I wanted to make sure that asking for one early wasn't crazy. To answer another question, we are 27 and 31.And thanks for the TAPS sign love :) I was way more excited than I should have been when we found their office in Rhode Island.
