do you think a cleaning person once a month

is worth it?

She's $110 once a month, or $100 twice a month.

I am having difficulties coming to terms with coughing up the cash twice a month. But working 32-40+ hours a week and spending all freaking day on Fridays or Saturdays cleaning my house is just too much -- I'm an uber cleaner.

The good thing: if she comes twice a month, the alternate weekends I will only have to do a wipe down and not a deep clean.

  • I pay $45 a week. So, that's a total of $180 a month and it's THE best money I spend every month!! Go for the twice a month! Smile

  • We have one come once a month. I can tell the house needs to be cleaned again after about 2 weeks, but once a month is still awesome. If we had tons of extra cash, I'd definitely do twice. Otherwise, it still gets deep cleaned more often than I have time to do and it's still worth it. (Our cleaning lady is insanely detailed...in ways I never was or could be. It takes her like 10 hours to clean our house).

  • If you can only afford once a month, then do that, but if you *can* do twice a month, definitely opt for that.

Ours comes every other week and by the middle of the second week, I'm looking forward to her coming so badly.

One of my girlfriends has her every week and I am SO jealous.

  • Hell yes I would. I can think of stuff I only get to every couple of months because I don't have time on my regular cleaning routine.   Baseboards, windows, etc.

  • I would get some more estimates.  We were quoted a wide range.  I had someone quote me the same price for 2 times a month as someone else did for one.  I pay $65 for 2X a month, which works out to about $20 an hour.  They work very hard while they are here and I like that it is a team, so they are not in the house long.  I use a service, but for 6 years had a wonderful lady.  I wish she would have stayed with me, but she got a regular job.
  • Totally worth it.

We have someone come once a month and she is $20/hour. What is nice about her is that I can tell her how long I want her to stay and what I want done. As long as I keep up on things like wiping down the bathrooms and sweeping etc. I feel like the house stays pretty clean between her visits. I always have her come right before company or something comes to town as well. I think it is definitely worth it, go for it! Try the once a month and if that isn't enough you can always switch.
  • i pay 110 once a month and its the best money i spend, so worth it! its been about a year since we hired our cleaning service and i love having the weekends to spend with my family rather than cleaning

  • I say YES it is worth it. I pay $109 every two weeks to have someone come clean my house. And I LOVE IT. We are currently buying another home and will have to stop the cleaning until we sell our first home and I am so upset about it.

  • Another vote for "YES"!!! I have our cleaning lady come 2x a week and it's wonderful! Though I have to clean on a daily basis (I have 4 freakin kids and a husband that leaves trails!) I've never had to deep clean anything! I'm talking toilets, bath tubs, etc. I just make sure the floors are swept and mopped in between visits.
  • Twice a month.  Do it.  It is the biggest blessing in the world to come home on those two days a month to a completely clean house.  It's like a big weight lifts off my shoulders!!
  • For me it was not worth it.  I was paying $125 a month and just didn't feel it was like it other than for the bathrubs to get cleaned by someone else.  I have found that if I keep the house top clean (which I do all the time) and then dividing the house cleaning up throughout the week works better for me.  I never spend a whole day cleaning.  I do the vac. one day, the bathrooms another, etc.  I do the kitchen basically daily when I'm doing the dishes.

  • I'd get some more quotes.  I think most give you more of an incentive to have someone come every other week.  For me, the benefit of a cleaning lady is not having to do any deep cleaning myself, and I think a month is a bit long for bathrooms and floors to go without a thorough cleaning (especially with kids).
  • Once a month is worth it if you're not super messy.  For instance, we have a bull dog who slobbers and my youngest is potty training. So, we need more than once a month - I couldn't handle the bathroom not being cleaned for that long with the potty training.

If I were you I'd try out both options and see what you can handle. See if only once a month works.  If you're having to clean the toilet in between, ehh, then it's not worth it.
