Hello ladies!
I?ve been lurking for a few months now and decided that it?s time to come out of the woodwork. I went off BCP in August ?09 and DH and I started TTC in October ?09. I had been on BCP?s for about 8 years prior. My first 2 cycles off BCP?s were fairly regular (+/- 2 days) but I haven?t ovulated since December ?09. I charted temps and CM from October thru April but took a break in May. I have autoimmune thyroiditis which causes fluctuating thyroid levels and a history of very low grade endometriosis. My current dx is oligomenorrhea with anovulation.
My family doc was insistent that BCP?s would solve my problems and would only induce menses by going on a cycle of BCP?s. I have since started seeing a fertility specialist (no RE?s in our area). I had an infertility consult with him back in June and things hadn?t gone as well as I imagined they would. Callus demeanor aside, the doctor gave a less than stellar first impression. He was more than willing to talk but his listening skills need improving.
My initial lab work was normal (DHEA, Prolactin, FSH) and DH had his first SA with the specialist?s clinic late last week and we are still awaiting the results. Hopefully we will get some answers soon.
One thing that confuses me greatly through this process is that their treatment approaches are polar opposites (understanding they have different training). My family doc gives me the option of 1. waiting for natural AF; 2. going on a cycle of BCP and waiting for AF; or 3. Provera to induce withdrawal bleeding (which she won?t prescribe). On the other hand, the specialist would jump straight to a double-dose of Provera (reg dose but twice daily for 5 days rather than daily for 10). In the meantime, my LMP was 5/5/10 and I?m sick of my hormones getting thrown out of whack from 2 cycles of BCP (2/10 and 4/10) so I am anxiously awaiting AF even though it probably won?t come any time soon L
If results from the SA come back favorably, he will most likely start the Provera/Clomid or Femara cycle to see how I respond.
Has anyone done the 5 day (twice daily) Provera schedule before?? If so, Pros & cons??
(I know SE can be rough to begin with, I can?t imagine the double dose.)
Thank you for any advice, you ladies have helped me learn quite a bit so far!
Re: Intro and Provera question (long - sorry!)
Good morning and welcome!
I haven't been on the 2X daily provera, I do know that others on here have, it isn't uncommon. I have taken provera 1x a day multiple times in the past to jump start AF, and really have never had any side effects from it at all.
It took 5 failed IUIs and a failed IVF, but our FET worked!
