Haven't officially finished it (or ANY of my pregnancy/birthing books for that matter) but I really did enjoy it... took me awhile to get past the art stuff, but then I decided I would make my own little art and even though it was hideous, it really helped solidify a picture for me to focus on during labor.
Try to let go of the feelings of intimidation. The birth art is not meant to be displayed...it is meant to get to our inner feelings and concepts, help us access stuff that we haven't been able to verbalize. I didn't do all the suggestions, but did 3-4 of them and found it helpful.
DH and I took the class, and yeah, definitely struggled with the "birth art" portion of it all. But when it came time for labor, thank god DH had sat through the class! I can't say enough for this birthing method/strategy.
Re: Just finished reading...
It is a great read.
But the birth art was an odd concept for me, too. I kind of skimmed those sections.
However, then we took a BFW class - and we *had* to do some birth art. (Man, was ours UGLY! lol.) But honestly? It was extremely helpful.
I actually still have it somewhere.
This was my favorite pregnancy/labor book!
