birth story

While Caroline was napping, I decided to work on my birth story.  It is REALLY long so I'm not posting it on here.  If you have time for a novel, please read my blog (linked in siggy.)

  • Wow!  What a story!  And I am so impressed that you have it done only a week after.  It's been over 13 months and I haven't done mine.

Congratulations!  I know she was worth the wait.

I knew that if I didn't do it now, I would never do it.  The funny thing is that I cried writing it and I'm not even sure if I cried when she was born.  (I definitely cried during labor in pain though!)

  • Wow!  Thanks for sharing your story Natalee.  I'm also impressed you got it done so fast.

    It's so emtional, isn't it?

I even had DH keep a log of most everything that happened while I was in the hospital.  I still plan to write it all out.  Someday.....  It could potentially be very long, but I think at this point I will do the condensed version.

  • Congrats again Natalee!!!!  Thank you for sharing the story :-)
  • Great birth story!

And, because I've never given birth before... even though you had the epi was your labor pretty close to going natural?  I mean, it sounds like you were able to feel pretty much everything.  Could you tell if the epi kicked in at all?  Either way it sounds like things turned out for the best because you had no tears.  That's my biggest fear!

From what I understand, the epi is supposed to block the pain and that definitely never happened.  People have told me that you feel numb and nothing was ever numb for me.  I felt my legs, my abdomen, my vag, my everything.  Me and Brian both think that it worked to some extent for about 30 minutes on one side of my body.  Even then, I was never numb on that right side, but it provided some relief.  I find the whole thing to be pretty funny actually.  I went into the experience pretty against the epi, I give in and it doesn't work (or at least not how it's supposed to.)  They finally come in to redo it and I'm about to give birth.  I probably would have experienced the same amount of pain had I just said no.  I mean what's 30 minutes of partial relief in the grand scheme of things, right?

My 2 main reasons for not wanting it were to not prolong labor and to not tear.  Neither of those happened so I'm happy.  I was up walking around right away and have recovered great down below.  I had no problems sitting or standing or anything even the day I gave birth.  I'm still a little scared to look, but it seems to back to almost normal already and it's only been a week.

  • Thanks for sharing, Nat!  And I'm dying to know...have you have your first glass of Pinot yet?!

  • What an amazing story. Thank you for sharing!
  • Thanks for sharing!  I'm glad things went well for you besides the epi.  I'm glad you were able to have a normal delivery, & yay for no tearing!
  • thanks for sharing!  I know it didn't go as you planned, but you really did go through a lot and you have a gorgeous daughter!  Its awesome that you didn't tear and are healing up well too!!

  • Congrats Natalee!  Your birth story was beautiful, just like little Caroline.  My epi didn't work either (it worked for an hour and then fizzled out) and my sister's only worked on 1 side so I know that feeling all too well.  In the end, you got your beautiful little girl and in a few months, that delivery will be a fuzzy memory that has been replaced by new memories as a family of 3.  Congrats again!
