Stupid doctor (vent)

The kids and I just moved and I'm getting them all set up with new doctors and stuff and since DD is on allergy shots, I got her in to see an allergist to continue immunotherapy.  I have all documentation from the previous doctor, outlining the formula for the injections, what she's allergic to, everything.  The new dr she's seeing tomorrow wants to do a whole new work up and allergy tests.  Really?  Wtf can't they go by what was previously tested?

DD hasn't been on allergy meds for 2 weeks.  She already feels like crap and they're going to make it worse.  I'm already angry that they're going to annoy her with all the sitting still and stuff...but I'm not sure this test will be pain free.  The previous one was supposed to be but it still hurt her.

Ugh.  Not a good thing to be aggravated with this new office before ever having been there.

  • Allergy tests are painful... well, they can be painful and/or very itchy. I had one done when I was younger and it is an experience I would never wish on anyone. I understand that some doctors like to do their own new work-ups, but I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. Hopefully, you're DD gets through everything excellently!!!!

The only reason I can think is liability, can you ask your old doctor to call in a script for you for the meds?  I had 7 years of allergy shots, and still take 2 meds a day for it, most days.  no fun.  Hope they get it worked out.  Oh and make sure your insuance will cover the new panel, they often won't if the other was recent.

  • Joe, they said because the vials are from another dr, they can't use the prescription or the vials themselves.  I knew they couldn't use the vials but I'm still not sure why they can't use the same formula.  And its new insurance so this co. hasn't paid for a panel yet.  The other one was in March of 2009 though.

And I plan on giving her Benadryl as soon as we leave.
