Hi all! I have just started lurking on this board and I am so glad that I have! You all are so encouraging and I am appreciating all of the info, inspiring birth stories, and suggestions for books, movies, etc.
I have always thought that I would want a natural birth and now that I am pregnant, I am becoming more and more sure. However, I have been a slacker in my research! I really need to know WHY I want what I want so that I can be confident in my decision! I also think that I am going to need to convince DH of my decision. He is amazing but he always wants to make sure I am comfortable and without any pain. He needs to be on board if he is going to help me through this. I mentioned at one point that I don't want an epidural and he seemed very concerned about that!
Re: I want a natural birth...I think! (Intro)
Welcome! I'm sure that you're going to receive a lot of good advice here about this!
I'm not sure if you want more book recommendations, but what started me on the road to a natural birth was reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. This is kinda like the "Natural Birth Bible." It is so inspiring! By the end of the book, you are completely convinced that your body was made to do this naturally!
From the medical side, which could be helpful for convincing your DH, A Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth has a ton of info about standard medical procedures and whether or not they're helpful!
Good luck with whatever decision you make!
THIS! Ina May is amazing. I have had the priviledge of meeting and being examined by her and her colleague of 40 years delivered my baby in her community in Summertown, TN (read my birth story if you like the link is in my siggy). Reading her book changed my life....and is a great second step. I would recommend your first step be watching the film The Business of Being Born. You can find it on Netflix watch instantly....if you dont have netflix you can register for their free trial, watch the film on your computer and then cancel your membership if you want.....that is what made me decide to go natural. I didnt have so much as an IV in my natural birth...amazing experience!
Welcome!
My DH was similar to yours at first. I've gotten him reading and we are going to Bradley classes and the education he has received has really helped him understand and be supportive of my point of view.
Good luck!
This. But also DH watching the Business of Being Born really sold him.
