Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Not rolling at 7 1/2 months, should I be concerned?

I know all babies develop at their own and I honestly can't believe I'm about to post this because I never thought I would be "that" mom.  But my LO isn't rolling.  He was rolling from stomach to back a lot around 4-6 months.  Then he just stopped.  He won't roll from stomach to back or back to stomach at all.  He doesn't even act like he wants to.  I'm a little concerned.  Would you be?

  • Honestly, no, I wouldn't be worried because you know he CAN do it because he's done it before.  My DS only rolls back to tummy and I'm not at all concerned that he doesn't roll tummy to back.  Maybe he's concentrating on developing a new skill.

  • Knowing that he has rolled and used to do it often is optimistic.  Some babies, often times when they master one skill move on to mastering another.  Just because he is not rolling right now does not mean that he can no longer do it.  Has he been doing something new lately?  Sitting up perhaps?  Learning to crawl?  He may just be one of those babies who takes on milestone at a time.  Definitely bring it up at his 9 month well baby check but I wouldn't be overly concerned just yet.

  • I wouldn't worry about it at all!  Keira was the same way and just recently started rolling all over the place.  Don't worry!  Sometimes these boards freak me out because Keira has only crawled 3 times; she prefers to roll everywhere now but all babies are not the same!  I am sure your LO is just fine.

Thats 3 times more that Kai! I swear everyone on here has super-babies..... according to my books, Kai is right on track, but these boards make you feel like if your kid isnt sitting, crawling, reading, reciting poetry and driving by 5 months, they are delayed!

  • My LO hasn't rolled over back to front yet.  He has rolled over a handful of times from front to back.  At his 6 month appt, my pedi said she wasn't concerned about rolling.  She said sitting and grasping with hands is far more important.

I know how you feel though - sometimes I think I should be worried about it.
