Baby Furniture....

I don't know what to do about baby furniture.

Of course I fell in love with a set that would run us about 1200-1300 dollars, and my husband is not dealing well with that.

He suggested getting pre-owned, which I want to stay clear of because it voids warranties and would be problematic if there are any recalls.

There are a lot of great places in the area to look and I have been actively looking everywhere like Normans, Karl's, Babies R Us, Target, Walmart and JC Penny.

Where is everybody getting their furniture, and approximately what are you spending?

Are you getting a crib, dresser and changer or opting for combos???

Re: Baby Furniture....

  • We got our crib and glider/ottoman at Baby Supermart in Broomall. We didnt' get a changing table and just put the changing pad on top of a dresser that we already had. I can't remember, but I do remember being astounded by the price of the furniture we ultimately got. We were fortunate that the grandparents split the glider and crib.
  • We got our crib and chair from Baby Supermart.  We used a dresser we already had.  Honestly, If I could go back I would have bought the Graco convertible crib for less than half the price.  I didn't realize until it was too late that my DS has been chewing on the rails Indifferent

  • We are expecting baby number 2 and our son is only 9 months old, so we are going to have to get another crib since he will only be 18 months when the baby comes. I plan on getting my crib through Walmart.com, they ahve the same ones as BRU but you dont have to pay shipping since they do site to store! Also I plan on getting my dressers/changing table at Ikea. I am actually going to get the Hemnes set in black/brown since it goes really well with the Storkcraft black crib I am getting. I also like the fact that it isnt baby furniture. My sons set looks great but the drawers are very shallow and wouldnt work as he gets older! I know this is a lot of info but I hope it helps!

  • I really like Cymax.com. They have the same furniture as the stores, but there are not taxes or shipping costs. You can also call them up and they will typically give you at least a 5% discount (something is always better than nothing Smile ). And you can get 6 month of no interest payments through Bill me Later.

  • I went through the same thing. In the end we found a great deal at BabySupermart that included the crib (with mattress) and dresser for something like $700. We use the dresser as a changing table as well and I think DD can use it for years to come (or for future babies). They run sales like that all the time so you can probably find something there for a good price if you keep checking back. Ive heard great things about the quality of JCP, and we were planning to go that way until I found that all the sets I liked had astronomical delivery fees so the price was no longer as competitive as I initially thought. Ikea is also a good idea. Like all their furniture, some is good quality and some is not, you just have to check it out in person and read the reviews.

  • we are expecting our 2nd so we're doing things a little differently...

although we got lucky with our first we bought an entire set that was on clearance from kmart (totally cute though and girlie) - armoire, dresser with mirror, bookshelves and nightstand for all under $500...great deal and although they are particle board - most kids grow out of nursery furniture and it quickly looks awkward in an older childs room...

We recently moved and bought a new crib from walmart since my MIL had one from BRU (the graco sarah crib) and LOVE LOVE LOVE it...super sturdy - she's 2 and jumps all around in it plus it's convertible - so needless to say we'll be getting the same crib for baby #2

as far as furniture goes I have been scouring craigslist for some unique pieces to paint with the accent color for the room - there are a lot of great pictures of this idea on the web
