rough week

hey ladies

wish I had better things to share but I'm feeling very drained right now. I'm fairly certain that I still have thrush since my breasts/nipples are still on fire. This is incredibly frustrating since I've had 2 doses of diflucan and have been using the expensive nipple ointment for a week and I barely feel a difference. My breasts hurt a little less but, if anything, my nipples hurt more.

The worst part is that it makes me dread feeding her and I hate feeling like that. It makes me feel like an awful person.

Hopefully my LC will be able to come over today to check how she's latching and see if that could be contributing to the problem. She costs $160/hr but I don't think I really have a choice. :( So far the money I've invested in breastfeeding is more than I would have spent on formula for the same amount of time but hopefully we will figure this out and have a long, pain free, bfing experience and it will balance things out over time.

Compounding the issue is that I haven't been able to get any sleep so everything seems a little worse when you're tired. (hence my 5am post from the other day)

I sometimes catch myself wishing this time away because I can't wait for things to get a little easier, but I'm going to miss it when she's not this teeny anymore.

Now I'm rambling. I'm going to see if this little muffin will stay asleep if I move her off my chest and hopefully catch a few hours of sleep and wake up with a better outlook on life.

Hope you other new mamas are doing a bit better!!

  • Things will get better.  Definitely cherish this time now because you will be wishing it back in a few weeks.
  • Loading the player...
  • Big hugs Morg. Hang in there, you're such a great mama.

p.s. $160/hr. Clearly we are all in the wrong line of work. We should all become LCs. But seriously, I hops she gives you some great advice today to make things easier.

  • Big hugs, Morgan and lots of sleepy vibes to Quinn and you to get some rest.  Hang in there and remember, I'm just an el ride away if you need anything :)
  • Hugs for you Morgan. I hope the LC will get you the advice you need. Major "nipple curing / quinn good latching / sleepy vibes" coming to you!

  • I'm so sorry you're still having issues :( I hope the LC brings some answers for you to fix the situation!

I wish I lived closer, I'd be over in a heartbeat to let you get some sleep!

  • M: If I could say anything to you, I would tell you that you are my hero for bfing. You have taught me to never give up on something you believe in girl. I hope that things get easier for you. You are in my thoughts! :)
  • That sucks that you're still having trouble. :(  I hope the LC is able to help.  Was your doc positive that it was a yeast infection?  It's surprising that it wouldn't have cleared up with all of that!  Do they hurt even when you're not feeding?  Don't feel bad for dreading feedings.  That's a totally normal instinct when it's hurts you so much!  You're a great mom for continuing to do it through the discomfort.  I hope it gets better soon!
  • $160/hour?  When I took my breast feeding class on Thursday night I specifically asked about what the rate was if I came in after having LO for help and they told me it was no charge.

Good luck and hope that the LC can give you some answers (especially for that price).  Hopefully the LC can help enough to at least let you relax and get some sleep.

  • I thought G & I had thrush at one point b/c my nipples hurt SO bad I was nursing and looked very pink,etc...It turned out to be something else and now I can't remember what that was!!  (very helpful I know)
  • Hugs! I'm so impressed with you for hanging in there. I hope it gets easier soon. I know everything seems so much worse with no sleep, I hope you can get some rest!
  • thanks ladies.

Not positive its thrush but my nipples burn ALL THE TIME and I've had deep breast burning as well. I try to leave them uncovered as much as I can and even the air from the fan hitting them causes pain.

I think I'm going to go to a bfing 911 clinic at a local store before having my LC come. the clinic is only $45. (ha, ONLY)

I got two hours of sleep and now I'm more exhausted but oh well. it's gotta be better than nothing
