Transporting Breast Milk

I have to go out today for the night and won't be able to breast feed while out.  I have some fresh milk that I just pumped as well as a supply of frozen milk.  My question is how do I bring it along to feed DS?  Do I defrost the frozen and put it in bottles?  Do I keep the milk frozen and put it in a ice pack?  Or should I take the freshly pumped milk and put that in bottles?  Does that have to be stored in an ice pack?

 Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

Re: Transporting Breast Milk

  • You can keep milk at room temp for 4 hours, so you can just bring the milk in a bottle and use the time at room temp as the 'warming'.

  • I would use the fresh stuff since it's a little "safer" for travel.  As pp said, it can be kept at room temp while frozen can't.  I personally would bring a bottle or two in a little cooler with an ice pack and then warm it when needed.

Just wondering why you won't be able to breast feed.
