Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Hello I'm new and just found out I am having a miscarriage...

Hi everyone, I found out I was pregnant last week. Monday starting spotting with cramps went to ER, they sent me home and said everything was fine. Tuesday night I started bleeding and went in to ER again, where I was told that my HCG levels decreased. I had another blood test done today to confirm that all this is true.

What should I expect as far as the bleeding... My dr. wanted to schedule me for a D&C but of course i have horrible insurance and have a $2000 deductible, which we don't have right now to pay. The only payment plan that they will do is half up front and then the rest in three payment, which we can do either.

Right now I feel sad, empty, stupid... will these feeling ever pass?

Thanks for reading!

  • ((hugs))  I feel the same way.  If you are already bleeding and you were early enough along, I think you are ok to not have a D&C.  I think it's kind of weird the way most doctors push them.  But I know it's the best option for many women.
  • Yes, I do hope I will be okay without the D&C... he pushed it from the very beginning. He didn't even want to do a blood test for the third time... ugh it's been a horrible day :(

  • I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm also sorry for you that your doc is pushing a D&C. You should try to avoid it, just because of some potential risks. (I had one years ago.. and didn't want to have another)..  I had a natural mc, which sounds like you are, too.. and it took almost 10 days to 2 weeks for it all to stop (bleeding/spotting, etc.).. I went in every other day, then weekly for my HcG levels.. which were at 6 earlier this week.  Less than 5 to negative is what they want to see.

  • So sorry for your loss. This second loss I wasn't very far along and my bleeding was a little heavier than a usual period. I had a lot more clots and it was very heavy for 3 days, then lighter spotting for a few days after that.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. There are a lot of women that have chosen to do it both ways so I think its okay to try natural with doctors approval and then if you need you can have the D&C.

  • So sorry for your loss.

A natural m/c is very doable, I just had my 2nd. I chose to have one the 2nd time even after experiencing it the first time for personal reasons and had nothing to do with my insurance, since I have no deductible for surgery.

Depending how far along you are in the pregnancy expect a lot of cramping & bleeding, and possibly some contractions. If you are early enough the contractions will not be that bad. Once it starts just relax, drink water, make sure the bathroom is available, and purchase the largest overnight pads you can find. With my first one I actually thought it was done after the first day b/c I stopped bleeding for a minute & I had passed some tissue, but I was WRONG. Make sure to wear a pad for at least a week after it happens, then you might be able to switch to a panty liner. I would suggest if your insurance covers it, heavy pain killers. If not extra strength advil. Advil relieves muscle pain.
