Pregnant after 35

Had my baby on my due date (three weeks and one day ago)

Hi Ladies

Finally getting around to posting on here. I had William (Will)  (7lbs 4 oz, 20 inches) on his due date of 7/8. It was a great labor once I had an epidural! I was fighting the pain and not progressing but once the epidural kicked in I progressed nicely (shocking the doctors) and had him in under 17 hours. I pushed for about a half hour-- I was so determined to get him out into the world. He is a great baby and I am definitely in love. I am also so impressed with my 37 year old body which has already almost completely bounced back.

As expected, I did have some pospartum depression and anxiety. I will be more prepared for that with baby number two. It does get better. The first week was brutal but I almost feel like myself again.

Good luck ladies! Looking forward to seeing you on 0-3

  • Congratulations! Enjoy your new baby William - it only gets better from now on.

How did you overcome the PPD?

  • Congratulations on your little one!

I found that the epi made me relax and able to progress as well. I'm no stranger to helpful legal drugs though. Big Smile

  • Thanks Ladies! Well I am only three weeks along so I wouldn't say I have overcome PPD yet but I am on my way. I had a history of depression so I had a prescription ready to go and started taking antidepressants about six days after giving birth. That has helped immensely though I had to forego breasteeding for it. If you think you might have an issue, have a plan in place. I did not. I had a plan for the baby but no plan for myself. I will see a therapist next week but it took me a month to get an appointment. I wish I had scheduled one "just in case" before having Will. I feel more like myself every day but PPD is no joke. It was scary.

I agree Lynda Carter! I was fighting the pain and screaming epidural. Once I had it, it was an ideal birth experience (for me) and only good memories.

Congratulations! I did not have an epi last time, but would have accepted it had there been time, as the temp. pain killers really helped me feel better. Glad your little man is doing so well!

The idea of having an appointment in place as well as antidepressants is a good one.  I did not have these last time, and the first month was hell.  I may do that this time
