Are you/did you take any?
Was it worth it?
I'm not sold on them given they cost money (my insurance will not cover it) and will take up 6 precious Saturdays (also meaning we can't start until late-October given my travel schedule so we would pretty much be in class up until I deliver). In general I'm not a huge class type person anyway...I'd probably consider it more if it were a one-on-one with a nurse or something rather than a group.
Re: Childbirth classes?
Look at you at 19wks!
Thanks to pepomtpat and her laleche rec., I looked up our hospital to see what classes are offered. For us there's a 2short classes but larger class size and then an all day 9-3 class with smaller group (says more personal attention). Also has a full range of classes from babysitting to breastfeeding and carseat installment. It's all through Shared Beginnings.

I'm really glad we went to our class, if only b/c it gave my husband some peace of mind and a few tips on how to help me in labor. Our class wasn't covered by our insurance anyway, but it was worth the $125. It was a one-day class at the hospital given by an RN and Lactation Consultant. There were also a pediatrician and an anesthesiologist who came and breifly spoke and answered questions. I would look into the one-day classes and see if they offer that at your hospital so that you don't have to worry about taking up all of your Saturdays and your travel schedule.
Hopefully you'll find something that works for you. I wouldn't write off a class altogether though. I've heard statistics about how if you don't do some kind of classes you are more likely to have excessive interventions, pain meds, and potentially c-sections. I don't know how true that is, but it's worth the try!
We participated in the class that was 2 hours, once a week, for 2 months...in the end, we didn't really remember any of it and the stuff we did remember was useless...the nurses really do help you with anything you need to know.
The best thing about our class is that we met another couple and we let our LOs have playdates together while the daddies play video games together.
I am taking Bradley classes and am finding them very helpful-especially for DH. I was pretty sure the hospital class would be a waste of time and now I am going with a birth center, so I'm glad I didn't bother.
Our hospital does offer an online class as well as a one day class in addition to the six week classes for people with scheduling conflicts. Does yours offer any scheduling options?
DH and I took a 6 week course, 2 hours a week. We started them just before I was 31 weeks, and finished this past Monday. It was helpful for DH more than me. I have been on here, obviously, and reading a lot on my own. It was only $80, though, and I thought a decent investment for getting some additional hospital specific information and meeting some of the L&D nurses. Would I do it again? Probably not...but for a first baby, I thought it was a good thing.
