Pregnant after 35

Hey Old Ladies

Just wanted to check in and say hi!  I've been away from the board for a bit and wanted to re-connect.

So what are you all doing about those swollen ankles?  My cankles: (calf-ankles)  Midwives say to swim swim swim.  I'm swimming but nothing's changing.  Walk, eat less salt, drink more water, yadah yadah.  Nothing.

I like venturing out and getting good belly attention and hearing good birth stories (few and far between)  why do people always tell you the bad??

Getting excited about labor and birth.  It's my first.  Our last birth class with Penny Simkin (the guru of Natural Childbirth) is next week.  I've learned some really great techniques and ideas for coping with pain, good positions, how partners can really help and good tips for breastfeeding.  I'm ready! (I think)

Now if only we can get the baby's room ready!

Hope you are all having a great day!

  • Hi, I am not swollen yet so don't know what to tell you. Looks like you are well prepared for the big day. I am not too worried about the labor part. My first birth was natural, the 2d time I went for epidural and going for it again this time. I am more worried about what I am going to do with screaming baby after she is born :)

  • I put my feet up every night. Basically, I sit in my recliner with a pillow shoved in my back and my feet up higher than my belly. It does help some. I even put ice on my left foot/ankle when it swelled up worse than the right and that helped too.

  • Last time I wore compression socks, iced my feet every night, put pillows under them while I slept, and nothing really helped. I had cankles until Brigid was about a month old. Ugh. Hang in there, try the Mommy Socks or some compression socks, it helped them not hurt so much.
