Birthday party at Chuck E Cheese

DS is set on having his birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. We've never been to a party there, so I don't know what's involved. Do the kids just eat pizza and cake and run around playing games? How many tokens per kid should I plan on getting?

Re: Birthday party at Chuck E Cheese

  • I've never been the hostess for one of these but my neices and nephew have had plenty of parties at CEC. I think the package deals include tokens for the guests (like 20 of them) for up to X amount of kids. 20 dont' go too far though! LOL. It would be nice to up the tokens to 50 per guest but not expected. And its pretty much that- cake and pizza and run around! THe kids always seem to have a blast!
  • I always plan to spend about $10 more when there to get more tokens.  And the kids could really care less about pizza/cake....so be sure to have extra people to round up the kids.  I'd do the pizza cake back to back so you're only interrupting the play time once, and not plan on opening gifts.  The good thing is that once party time is over, they don't rush you out (just to clear the table), so if some families want to stay longer, they can.

  • We just had DS's 4th birthday at CEC. They did a nice job. And it's nice for the parents because there's not much for you to worry about. If you go on their website, they have all the info on packages/how many tokens per kid, options like ordering a cake, etc.
  • We had DD1's 3rd bday party there.  We had over 50 guest and they reserved two long tables for us.  The trick of saving money is to only reserve the party for 4 kids and make the rest of the guest (adults+kids) just guest/adults.  So then you only pay 8.95 for 4 kids.  Use printed coupons to purchase all the pizzas and tokens.  you can normally get a coupon that is $10 for 100 tokens.  I usually give the older kids about 40 tokens and the little toddlers around 20.  This made the party really cheap.  I also brought my own table decor and balloons instead of using theirs.  You pay for about 45 mins and you eat for about 45 mins.

also...bring your own cake because their cake there isn't good and expensive for what you get.  The hostess will cut it and pass it out for you.

  • We just did one of their packages, not the most expensive, but the next one down so we'd have reserved tables. We signed up for coupons from their website and got a token coupon which we also used and doled out amongst the kids. It is seriously a no-stress party. The hosts do everything. I would recommend trying to hold the party on a weeknight instead of a weekend, because at least around here, weekends are crazy crowded.
