Don't leave your paint/butterfly project outside to "dry" in the rain.

Mom-made with lots of DD help. On the other side are mailboxes with magnets so the mail can stick inside, but this side was DD's favorite part. (Don't make fun of the lame keys.)

Another Costco box, and a way to use up some stickers. DD plays with this a LOT. Here's another pic of her favorite part ...

... the "park." with sides (wrapping paper tubes) and swings (popsicle stick and plastic yarn). She insisted I take this pic because she was having an Abby Cadabby day.

DD's been in a major coloring mood lately, so I've been tracing pics from her favorite books and she colors them in (and then tapes a marker to them - I don't get it either).

What do you do when DD asks to make a pink manatee project? Trace a manatee, which she colored in on both sides. Use eye droppers to dye coffee filters for the "lettuce." String beads for the water/ bubbles. Hang and enjoy!

(Ignore the chalk - DD was using it to "weigh down" the paper so it wouldn't blow away.) Color-diffusing paper, colored with markers then put in the rain.

Best for last. DD painted watercolor paper with liquid watercolor. While it was still wet, sprinkle with salt. It creates a really need effect!
Re: Craft PIPs
I actually got ours at Walmart. It was in the craft section, but not with the kids crafts. Watercolor paper is thick, has texture and really absorbs the colors nicely. It works so much better than regular white paper. It was fairly inexpensive - a few dollars for 25 sheets. I wouldn't substitute fingerpaint paper, which has a shiny surface and wouldn't do well with watercolors at all. Do you have a place like discountschoolsupply.com in Canada? The next time I get paper, that's where I'm ordering it from. You might just try regular old cardstock if you can't find watercolor paper - at least it would be thicker. I got a ream of it at a teacher's supply store.
I was looking in the children's craft section, that's probably why I didn't find it. Next time I'll look in the regular craft aisle. From what you describe though I bet textured cardstock would work well if I couldn't find the watercolor paper. I don't know if I have a discountschoolsupply.com, I'll have to look into that. My sister is a teacher, so she should know, lol. Thanks for the info!
