DD invited to her first "friend" birthday party - a couple etiquette q's inside...

Hi!

DD received her first bday party invitation yday from a daycare friend - exciting! We RSVP through email. Is it weird to ask the mom what kind of toys her daughter is into? (keep in mind, I do not know this family at all). Do I include a gift receipt with the gift? Lastly, what would be a fun gift for a 5yr old girl? I was thinking some kind of craft gift - beadmaking kit or something. WDYT?

 TIA!

  • I think if you ask its fine. Some parents prefer to get what the child actually needs/wants. You can include a gift receipt incase she gets duplicates.

    I like craft gifts.

  • I think it would be fine to ask, but I am telling you to get this. Smile  My daughter (and I) LOVES these things.  I have been recommending them to everyone.  Found at Target.

  • I would totally ask for ideas in the email.  It never hurts.  Any kind of craft gift would be a huge hit around here!  I know both the girls would love it and probably fight over it.

  • Yes its totally fine to ask what the child likes and you should ALWAYS give a gift receipt.  I get so annoyed when people do not provide gift receipts as then you are stuck with the gift if its not something your child would enjoy/you are already have the gift, etc.
