What do you pack for ur LO's lunch?

Oona is going to start a different school starting next week (ack!?) and we have to pack her lunch now (eek!?).

Got any tips? What are your LO's favorites? So far we bought Oona a really cute lunchbox (her pick: Ni Hao, Kai-lan with Ho Ho the monkey on it) and I guess a little thermos??

Does anyone know if there's soymilk that comes in little juice-box size? (that's not chocolate soy milk)

  • I know at Target on the same aisle as the lunch pails they had small sigg style bottles that fit in some of the lunch pails.

I am not sure about the organic milk but I would think they might have something like that at Costco.

  • Soy Dream does make a Vanilla Milk Juice Box.  I'm sure they make the original as well, but I've never seen it on the shelf.

You could always speak to a manager at the grocer and ask them to order it for you.  Shouldn't cost any more than shelf price, and if it does, go to another store.

  • Snacks - graham crackers, goldfish type snack, any of the auntie ann's snacks. Sometimes I like to throw DD off her game and I put raisins or dried fruit mixed in.

Various cut up fruits or fruit salad: blueberries, melons, grapes, strawberries, pineapple, make a good mix. DD loves peaches, plums and apricots but they can get mushy or bruised quickly.

I'll send a spoon with yogurt, applesauce, Jello. I get those veggie straws or chips or the deydrated snap peas or greans beans at TJ's.

Other ideas: carrots, cucumbers with hummus

I'm pretty sure I've seen the original in 3 packs at Whole Foods.

  • Here's our list that is on rotation:

Quesadillas (A's school has a microwave so they can warm it up) or even a cold tortilla for Sean

    Chicken nuggets

    Crackers and chips

    String cheese

    Applesauce

    Fruit leathers/fruit snacks

Fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, apples, bananas)

    Raisins

    Sippy cup with water

Cookies (usually a treat they get one day a week)

    Pancakes or waffles

Mini muffins, mini bagels, cut up breakfast sausage (yes sometimes breakfast foods are all they will eat)

    Steamed white rice

  • We usually pack whatever leftovers we have from the night before.  (Same as our lunches).  But if for some reason we don't, we make:
Chicken Nuggets, PBJ, PB Honey, Mac n Cheese.

Every lunch I include a fruit or veggie, a drink mostly a juice box but I have used sigg bottle or sippy cup as well sometimes.  I have applesauce option and a granola bar or cereal bar and/or crackers.

My preschool heats up her food.  I just put things in there with an ice pack and a fork and spoon.

  • In addition to what others have mentioned, Char likes hummus with pretzel slims, dehydrated strawberries, yogurt covered raisins and pretzels, sour cream and onion puffs from TJs, mini rice cakes.
