What can I send over to Elsie during her stay?

So Elsie (see update below) is settling into her private room and they'll be there for the next few days and need to keep her resting and entertained.  What thoughts do you wonderful, inventive, creative ladies have that a vivacious but recuperating 2-year-old girl might be distracted by to let her continue to heal?  Any ideas are welcome, so long as they can be sent via UPS/FedEx/USPS! :)

Re: What can I send over to Elsie during her stay?

  • No experience with this, but here is what I've heard suggested lately for traveling. Maybe some of it will be a good idea for Miss Elsie!

puppets, magna doodle, puzzles, new books, elmo dvds, pajanimals dvd (Owen loves this!), color wonder markers, stickers and sticker books. A decaturmama suggested putting straws in a container to take out and put back in. And putting little toys in brown paper sacks to find and pull out. I haven't tried it, but I can see Owen being fascinated with that kind of thing for a while.

I'm so glad she is getting better and can move out of the ICU. T&P's to all of them!

  • I would suggest calling her nurse and asking for suggestions, she will know her limitations since it sounds like she has a chest tube.

  • DD has loved playing with little pom poms, the kind you use for crafts, lately. I bought a few packs of them at the dollar store and put them in a little box/bin for her. She likes dumping them out and picking them back up, gluing them onto paper, and sticking them into the spout of a flip top rubbermaid bottle and shaking them around. They are small, so she would obviously have to be watched closely with them, but they're soft, colorful, and not anything that would require rambunctious playtime. I know that sounds weird, probably, but it was an activity I found on a toddler craft/ activity site and DD LOVES them.

DD would watch Finding Nemo 10 times in a row if we'd let her, so there's always the DVD options, too. Does she have any Little People? DD also sits calmy while she's playing with those. These are all things that she could do sitting in her bed.
