Daycare WWYD

DS's classroom at daycare has a pipe that burst. It's safe for the kids to be in the building, but not that classroom, so they moved his class to another smaller classroom. The director told me the room was crowded, but not at capacity. I'm thinking about taking off work and picking him up early. DH thinks I am over-reacting, but I don't feel comfortable with him in a crowded classroom all day. DS is in the 5's room, which is the same size as the room they moved his class to, but the school-age kids were moved to the same room. So they basically have two classes in one room.

  • If it wasn't a big deal to take off I would go ahead and take off and pick him up. Like if you have the vaca time to use/wouldn't lose pay- might as well, if it was me I would and go do something fun with DC.
  • I don't think its a big deal but if you aren't comfortable with it, just go get him.

  • The teacher(s) came over from the classroom correct?  If so I don't think it is a big deal for him to be in there.

  • I probably would not pick him up.  The director said the room is not at capacity so it's not like it is really "crowded".  Besides I think it is always a good idea for kids to be with older kids once in a while.
  • I don't think it's a big deal for him to be in a more crowded classroom just for a day or two. How much time do they spend outside? Probably quite a bit this time of year, right? I'm sure they'll manage to keep things organized while they're inside.

  • I bet the kids are LOVING the change of routine. Leave him there.
  • I would go pick him up. But i use any excuse to leave work early and go get him.  This is probably why I also have no vacation.

Not trying to be a jerk but I honestly don't really understand what your concern is. I think he will be able to cope with this change in his routine and if he can't, then he needs to learn how. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see this as a big deal at all.

I'm not worried about him "coping with the change in his routine." I am not crazy about him being in a small, overcrowded room all day.

Okay, I still see you leaving from work is an overreaction. He will be fine. FWIW, I think you were not at all overreacting about the lost in the store situation. But does he need rescuing from a mildly uncomfortable (if that), temporary situation at his daycare? No.
  • I personally would not pick up my child for this reason alone.  If the staffing was an issue or too many kids in the room, I trust my director would take care of the situation.  We had an A/C issue in hald the building last week so they moved the kids in my older DD's room to the otehr 2 preschool rooms.  The rooms were not at capacity but I know if they were, they would have made further adjustments.  I trust the director at my center and she always puts the kids 1st.
