Need help to un-swaddle LO

Our LO has slept in a swaddle since birth and still does today. We have tried a couple times at night for him to sleep unswaddled; I even bought a few of the sleep sack blankets that let his arms be loose so we could transition him. So far, we haven't had much luck with this.

He might fall asleep and sleep a few hours at a time, but not consistently and not through the night. Or he won't fall asleep at all, he will cry and scream for up to an hour before we go and get him.

Any ideas, any tricks, any advice on what worked for you??

  • Cold turkey was what worked best for us.  I was terrified of the transition away from swaddling, but he did just fine.

Same here. We stopped at 3 months with no problems.

  • We stopped a little later, like you and I think it was harder than if we'd stopped at 3 months.  It made for a difficult few nights, but we just put him in a sleep sack instead of a swaddle and toughed it out.
