Thinking of trying acupuncture again...

I went for acupuncture with a new lady right before Christmas. I was seeing a guy in Berkeley, but the treatments were so strange and different every single time to "try something new", and I wasn't comfortable with it. MIL found the lady (also in Berkeley) and I went to her once, and it felt really nice. The thing that made me stop was that she wouldn't bill me for her services and I wasn't sure about money seeing that we were on track to see the RE. Now I think I'm ready.

I'm just a little nervous. I don't know what to say, or if she'll even remember me. She called in January after the new year to see how I was doing and I felt kind of stupid just having one appointment with her.

  • I'd just call...I"m not sure what you mean about her billing you? Meaning you wouldn't pay the entire cost upfront?

Just call...if she doesn't remember you, you can remind her and she should have some file. Let her know what you want her to work on and I'm sure she'd be happy to treat you. I'm sure you're not the first to have only one appointment and then not go back for a while - just be honest - tell her you weren't in the right space to do it and now you are and you'd like to schedule an appointment.

    Ditto this!

Well, at the time J and I were in a financial pickle and she needed payment upon completion of each session vs. billing me later, which is what the guy did. Now it's not a problem at all.

If you're able to pay her after each session and you liked her, give her a call.

  • You have to remember that she's an independent contractor and she doesn't care when she saw you last. She'll be more interested in actually doing business with you and helping you out... Hopefully entering into it with that state of mind will give you the confidence to pick up the phone and call. She'll probably be happy to hear from you.

But with that said, are you randomly picking people or getting recommendations? My acupuncturist is a specialist in women's health issues and works under a master. Make sure you check out how long that they've been working, what they are trained to do, if they specialize, etc. You did the right thing by dumping the one who kept "trying new things". That shows a lack of experience.
