Dumb Questions Alert! Sleeping?

So this is a really dumb question but I am curious and didn't know who else to ask.  I am 11 weeks pregnant.  I am going to the beach tomorrow and normally I would spend the whole day working on my tan while sleeping in the sun.  So here is the dumb question... is it okay for me to lay on my stomach? I know that you are supposed to sleep on your left side but I didn't know if this was okay since I am not that far along.

Also- can I still use the same sunscreen? Sorry for the silliness of the post.

  • You can lay on your stomach as long as it doesn't make you uncomfortable. Your body is pretty good about letting you know when you need to stop doing that. I just used regular sunscreen when I was pg, but since then I have learned more about the chemicals in there. I guess it depends on your level of comfort - if you want to be extra safe, look for zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as active ingredients.

  • You should be fine with laying on your stomach.  Your body will tell you if its a bad idea. I think it wasn't until I started grew out of my normal pants that I couldn't as easily lay on my stomach (~16 weeks).  So everyone's different on that one. Laying on your back is the same type of thing.  Not recommended in third trimester but your body will tell you when its not comfortable to do it anymore.

Sunscreen wise I didn't worry about too much (maybe I should).  Then again I've got a degree in chemistry so what scares a lot of people doesn't scare me because I have a different perspective on things.  I just used what I used previously since I knew it worked and while you're pregnant you're more sensitive to burning than when you're not.  And I was trying to avoid pregnancy mask (my mom got it).  So if you're worried about the chemicals, then use the above suggestions and go from there.
