I was tired alot or got tired alot quicker than normal. I had crappy hair & difficulty losing weight. I saw an endocrinologist.

I'M GRAPE JELLY- ALWAYS AROUND & ALWAYS THE SAME
If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me. For I must be traveling on now. Because there are too many places I've got to see. -Allen Collins & Ronnie VanZant

I was not growing and was tired all the time (in jr high). My regular doctor diagnosed me, and then I saw a pediatric endocrinologist. Now I just go to a family practice doctor since it is well controlled.

Yep. About 8 months pp with DS my hair was still falling out and I could not lose ANY baby weight. My primary doc tested my thyroid and I was hypo. I've been on meds for almost a year and although my hair has stopped falling out, I cannot lose weight (despite diet and exercise) and I'm exhausted all.the.time even if I get good sleep. My primary suggested I go to and endo. - I'm scheduled to see one in two weeks.

I started getting really tired after the birth of my second son. Not just normal sleep-deprivation tired (although that's kind of what I thought it was), but it was more than that. I literally did not have any energy to do anything with my boys and it bummed me out. I also had headaches and joint pain (turned out to be arthritis - a separate issue - at 32 no, less!).
Because of the joint paint, the general practitioner doctor sent me to the internist/rheumatoidologist.
She told me sometimes because of the hormone shifts after pregnancy, that triggers women's thyroids to get a little out of whack. She prescribed levothyroxine and it took a little back and forth with blood draws and doctors appts to get my levels right, but we got there.
I was diagnosed at the beginning of my second pregnancy, but realize that I probably became hypothyroid after my miscarriage between my 1st and 2nd child. My symptoms included very dry skin, sensitivity to cold, dry, brittle hair, constipation, inability to lose weight despite dieting, slow, steady weight gain despite dieting, chronic fatigue and depression. Each pregnancy(or rather, the post-partum period) has affected my thyroid negatively and I'm on a pretty high dose of Synthroid as a result. I believe I started out at 50 mcg during my second pregnancy and have steadily increased since. Now I'm on 150 mcg and doing really well. I feel good, have been successful in my weighloss attempts and the other symptoms are in check.
I was pretty upset with my initial diagnosis because I don't want a life-long condition like this. However, it's just a tiny little pill every morning 30 minutes before eating. No biggie and I feel so much better when my levels are in check that it's worth it. My OB initially monitored it and now my GP does. At some point, he'll probably refer me to an endocrinologist because it's becoming apparent that mine isn't strictly post-partum related. Maybe Hashimoto's or even Graves Disease:(
Evelyn-Mommy to Ben 9.20.05 and Emily 5.14.07 and Callie 7.10.09!
My thyroid was screwy after I had my DD. I was exhausted (and it was more than post-baby exhaustion) and was really, really achey. I went to my primary care for a physical and she ran my thyroid bloodwork, along with lots of autoimmune checks. Oh - and my hair was falling out - but I thought that was just regular post-partum stuff.
I ended up on a low dose of synthroid and I feel a lot better. In fact, I got bloodwork drawn to check on it last week and the dr hasn't called me yet and I'm totally expecting to have to up my meds because I'm so tired and I can't shake it.
Along with the thyroid stuff, my vitamin D was very low and they're related and show similar symptoms. If you're getting blood drawn anyway, might want to get that checked.
wow, I need to get to a doctor! My mom has hypothyroidism and since having DD I have been wondering, but have just been blaming everything on DD. She's 20 months now so i'm guessing it's not just pp.
I was diagnosed when DD#3 was about10mo old--mainly the depression was what made me go to the Doc. I literally could barely function...barely. I saw a regular Doc because I thought I was depressed & would get referred...but she ran lots of tests & I came back way, way hypo. I feel much better now on medication.
