Trouble TTC

CP: Tamoxifen?

Does anyone have any experience taking Tamoxifen to support ovulation?  A nurse at my RE's office mentioned it in passing today as a possibility to reduce our costs for a medicated IUI cycle.  She said that I would take that and then just use an at home ovulation kit for IUI timing.

My only IUI cycle so far was Clomid & Ovidrel with proper ultrasound monitoring, so I am nervous about no monitoring, but I don't know anything about this drug.  I wasn't able to ask the nurse any questions yet, so I thought I'd start with this wise crowd.

TIA!

  • I've never heard of it or used it, but I did find this. It's supposed to be just like Clomid.

It's weird.  They both block estrogen receptors, but I thought that tamoxifen had more specific binding to the estrogen receptors in breast tissue whereas clomid binds to the ERs in the pituitary gland.  I would have thought that clomid would work best between the two.

Yea, and it must be cheaper like the OP said. The only thing is, if it works just like Clomid, should there be no monitoring? That's a tough one.
