E&R mommy, I have a question

I hope you don't mind me asking you a medical question.  I am waiting to here back from my doctor.

I had a Laser Laparoscopy done yesterday to help answer why I've been having pain since my c-section almost 2 years ago.

I do not have endo (which I am really happy about) but now that I know I don't have it, I don't really have any explanation for my pain.

My doctor cauterized two ligaments and a nerve.  She didn't really go into a lot of detail when talking to my husband after my surgery.

I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around two ligaments and a nerve causing me all the pain I've been in.

What is the reasoning behind cauterizing the ligaments?  Most of the pain that I have been having is about 1 inch above my c-section scar on the right side.  I also have a burning, pulling sensation in that area as well as every time I used the bathroom, 1 or 2, and when I am trying to get up from a laying position.

Any insight would be great.  Like I said, I am waiting for a call back from my doctor.

Thanks a bunch!

Re: E&R mommy, I have a question

  • I am so sorry to hear about your pain.  Since I wasn't there I can't for sure....but my money is on her performing a LUNA procedure.  It stands for laparoscopic uterosacral nerve ablation.  The idea is that if you ablate the nerve (and portions of the uterosacral ligament) that pain originating from this area will no longer be perceived.  You are anihilating that pain pathway.  It is commonly used for patients with endometriosis but can also be used for patients with chronic pelvic pain where you can't see any endo.

If your pain is incisional...I'm not sure if the procedure will be of benefit.  However, I am glad they did something to see if that will help you in the long run since they were already in there.

I hope you get a call back soon!
