It is an object (usually something soft) you try to get your baby attached to so that they can feel secure out of your presence and self sooth at some point. I have been trying f.o.r.e.v.e.r. with Kash and have had zero success!
Dd attached herself to a little bitty stuffed lamb that my mom put in her Easter basket that first year. It came from the Target dollar spot. *shrug* My advice is to pick up a few loveys and rotate them through so they're each equally loved. We only have one "Lambie" and God help us if we ever lose him because I don't think my kid will ever sleep a wink after that! There are actually websites to go to for people to post pictures of their kids' loveys and see if anyone has a replacement.
Re: what is a lovey? or is it just a term for something?
This is Caroline's lovey.

This always makes me think of Linus and his blanket.
Mine was a stuffed dog. I still have it. It is the *one* thing I will not share with Lil Miss.
