We have been considering the following names:
Mason
Elijah
Owen
Tyler
DH would like to use either David or William as a minute (his and FIL'S fn and mn)
My grandmother passed a couple of weeks ago and I would really like to honor her in some way. My problem is that her name is Velma Lola Karr, which is not the prettiest and doesn't make it easy to incorporate in a boy's name. Her maiden name was Anderson and we are considering using that for a mn.
I know that Velma is a female variation of the German form of William, it just doesn't feel like I would be honoring her because we were thinking of using it already. Also, I want something that is special for her. We were extremely close.
Do you ladies have any suggestions or combinations you like? If we go with Anderson the fn would either be David (DH and FIL's fn) or William. Thanks for any help. I'm stressing out!
Re: Boy name help please
I really like Lola, but of course you'd have to save it for a girl. (You could try Carson to incorporate one of her names, but personally, I'd spell it that way. I hate the spelling Karson, and Karrson is even worse.)
Could you use names that have a similar meaning, or start with the same letter?
ETA: Of course, you wouldn't want to use Carson with the mn Anderson...
I like Mason, Elijah, Owen and Tyler all with mn David.
If you want to use Anderson as the mn, I think David Anderson sounds fine. However, I also think some of your original favorites work just as well with Anderson. I especially like Elijah Anderson and Tyler Anderson.
ETA: I would leave Velma Lola Karr out of naming your boy, and go with using her maiden name of Anderson.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I'm not a big fan of naming people after someone of a different gender.
Also, this is your first baby, right? But you're trying to fit in like.... 15.... family names. Are you planning on only having 1 so this is your only chance at using those names? Is there any reason you couldn't just go with your original plan and save the other names for baby #2? We have boy #3 on the way, and I'm glad we didn't stack up family names on the previous 2 and left us with some great ones to use on this one (David and William are options as well!).
I actually share that opinion. It always feels a little weird/forced to me.
i think karr would be fine as a middle name, but of course anderson is a better name.
elijah is my fave out of the names you've listed. elijah karr? elijah william? elijah anderson? all good names, imho.
good luck!
I like Tyler Anderson, Tyler David or Tyler William.
I agree with pp that if you plan on having more children, I wouldn't stress out about having to fit in all of these names to honor family members on this child.
If this will be your only child, then maybe give the child two mn's (ex. Tyler William Anderson Lastname has a nice ring to it).
IMO Mason and Elijah are overused, so I like Tyler and Owen the most of your choices. I also think it's fine to name someone after a family member of the opposite sex, although I was named after my uncle so maybe I'm biased.
I think both David Anderson and William Anderson sound great. I slightly prefer William because of the Velma/William connection. I agree that William doesn't seem close enough to Velma to really feel like it's honoring your grandmother, but William Anderson to honor someone who was born Velma Anderson sounds good to me.
I am also naming LO after a grandparent of the opposite gender and don't think it's weird at all.
