Success after IF

when did you first give crackers/goldfish?

just curious- DD only has her 2 bottom teeth & DS also hast he 2 top ones but I really cant imagine them eating crackers of any sort...I made these snack sticks today thinking they were soft/crispy but they're like a cracker so I think I'll be eating them all myself.

Thoughts?

Re: when did you first give crackers/goldfish?

  • Hayden absolutely loves Goldfish and they are a snack I always have in the diaper bag. He was probably right at a year when we first gave them to him. They are small and he chewed them up really easily. To make myself feel better about them, I buy the Whole Grain Goldfish so that way he is getting some whole grains out of them. He did have some pieces of saltines starting at about 9 months. I would break them up and he loved them.

  • While we were on vacation we gave K pieces of the oyster crackers we got with our clam choweders. She loved them. I need to remember to buy some goldfish during our next shopping trip...even without teeth, if you break them into pieces, they can gum them.
  • I started with cheerios and once Elizabeth did OK with those, I moved to goldfish and graham crackers. She was probably 11-12 months. She only has top and bottom front teeth (no molars for chewing yet) and she still crunches the crackers, so her gums are doing the work.

If you're worried about the size of goldfish, you could start with the baby goldfish, which are even smaller than the regular kind!

  • I started with mums and then cheerios and moved on to goldfish.  I think she probably started eating them around 10 months.

They is going to gum them anyway, so it doesn't matter how many teeth they have.  Think about when you take a bite of something and chew it.  You use your front teeth mainly to break something off and not for actually chewing the food.

I was worried about he size of them at first and did buy the mini goldfish, but maybe only a bag of those and just stared giving her the regular size ones.

  • Stella eats crackers, goldfish, cheerios...you name it and she still doesn't have a single tooth!  She's quite the pro at eating without teeth and her gums are strong as hell.  Big Smile
