He can walk but not crawl!

Matthew's been walking for a month already.  But the kid doesn't crawl.  He can't even get on all four!

I know that crawling isn't a milestone, but something doesn't seem right. 

Anyone ever seen anything like this before?

LOL hey sweety! Charlize can only army crawl and she just learned a few weeks ago. She is on the verge of walking but is afraid to let go. She basically has it down though. Our kids are freaks. But that's why we love them, right? Congrats on your walker!

DD scooted on her butt (very efficiently) instead of crawling. I don't think she actually crawled until after she walked.

This is my DS, too! He never crawled and would only pull himself a few scoots by army crawl and then give up. He still doesn't pull up on furniture, doesn't go from sitting to laying down or laying to sitting. It all seems so strange to me. He can't get up to standing from sitting either. It's great that he's walking,b ut I don't know how to teach him these things...he's just content sitting and playing on his bottom and not pulling up, but loves to walk! He's on his way to running I think! eeek!! lol

This post makes me feel a lot better. DD is not walking yet, but does not crawl, just scoots. I am hoping that she stops being afraid of walking.

My son walked at 14 months... just learned to crawl at 18 months- its quite funny now!

From a developmental standpoint (I'm a developmental specialist in Early Intervention) crawling IS a milestone, and a very important one.  Walking is actually "easier" than crawling and for some reason, some babies skip over crawling (or creeping, more technically) and go right to walking... BUT that can impact the quality of their balance in walking.  Crawling teaches the fluid, twisting motion you might notice in your trunk as you walk... babies who walk without ever crawling tend to have a more stiff, penguin-like walk... so we in EI believe it's very important for every baby to crawl and we teach it if necessary if kids try to skip over it.
