DD screaming till I pick her up (long)

So I got home again today from work, and DD screamed once she seen me until I picked her up. I changed and than picked her up and said hi to her than put her down. I tried to get ready for dinner she screamed the entire time at my feet I was trying to play with her but she wanted nothing to do with it. Only wants we to hold her. Yesterday my mom took her so I could clean the house over there house plus they wanted some grandparents time with her so worked out. She was fine, once got there same thing screaming and want me to pick her up. They were shocked now that they seen what I've been telling them.

What can I do ? Why is DD doing this ? Did I cause this somehow ?

  • She misses you and wants to be snuggled. Hold her. Your clothes can wait. Make dinner ahead of time so all you have to do is reheat.

  • Jack sometimes does this too, I think it's just the seperation anxiety and the fact that he is more aware that I am gone at work now.  Before he didn't even realize I wasn't home all day, but now he "knows".

I just try my best to get everything done ahead of time so when I'm home in the evenings after work I can just hang out with him as much as I can.  I also spend the first hour home with just him, snuggling and playing with his toys.  After the hour is up he is usually content to play by himself so I can get other things done.  I only work 2 shifts per week, so I can't imagine going thru this every day.

I understand this is difficult, but it's totally normal for this age.

  • Sounds like separation anxiety. DD has had it bad since about 10 mo. Honestly, its just exhausting most of the time. If I am home, she wants nothing to do with DH and screams if I leave the room. She has to always be under my feet and is only happy if I just hold her on my hip. I've learned to do most everything while lugging a 23 lb-er. I figure the phase will eventually pass and I will miss her wanting to spend so much time with me.

  • i'm going through this with mine too. it is not fun and really exhausting when you get screamed at all day. by the end of the day i'm nearly in tears. for us it's aggravated by being away from home and being around a high stress family situation (illness of a loved one).

I think it also has to do with teeth for us. i have a feeling (even though he won't let me see in there) that he has several teeth coming through right now.

i ready for it to pass.
